Trainers and owners are collaborators in their dog training efforts. As such, trainers must possess powerful skills to engage owners in the training; to educate owners; to normalize behaviors and to teach owners methods and mechanics in training. Dog trainers also need to effectively manager client expectations. Clear, empathetic spoken and written communication is critical to dog trainers’ credibility and professional image.
This webinar helps trainers hone their communication skills. We will focus on active listening and clear speaking with owners. We will improve trainers’ skills in communicating with clarity and empathy- especially in difficult situations. We will cover ideas for normalization of behaviors. We will also cover the fundamentals of good written communication: timing and writing of notes and training plans and effective email communication with clients.

Elissa Orlando, MPA, CTC, is a certified dog trainer and consultant with Dog Educated in Rochester, NY. She is a graduate of The Academy for Dog Trainers and is a certified Fear Free Professional.

As a public television executive, Elissa has managed strategic and interpersonal communications with a variety of clients. As a personal fitness trainer and a pet dog trainer, Elissa has expertise in clear, confident communication skills, resulting in good outcomes and satisfied clients.
